welcome to the tdsb stem equity conference 2021!

The STEM Equity Conference aims to provide learning experiences with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) that are rooted in Culturally Relevant and Responsive Pedagogical (CRRP) approaches. In particular, we are seeking to engage Black, Indigenous, and racialized girls in STEM related activities so they see themselves as confident learners who are capable of making significant contributions to the STEM field in the future.

Based on the principles of equity, inclusion, Indigenous education and anti-racist pedagogy, presenters are asked to submit proposals that support the following priorities:

  • promote diversity in STEM with a focus on bringing racialized students to the conference

  • intentionally address STEM gender gap with a focus on bringing girls to the conference

  • providing students with an experience in which they see themselves reflected STEM careers

  • facilitate equity of access to a full range of educational opportunities in STEM

  • activate students' natural curiosity while inspiring them to pursue careers in the STEM fields

  • showcase cross-cultural contributions to the STEM fields
